Residents in impacted areas encouraged to take precautions
Gainesville, FL –Cox recognizes how important television, internet, home security and telephone services are during an emergency, as they are a primary tool for receiving information regarding the event and securing your property. That’s why Cox is currently fortifying its equipment, network facilities and work centers in anticipation of Tropical Storm Idalia. We are committed to providing customers with reliable access to important communications before, during and after a storm event.
If the Central Florida area is impacted by Idalia, Cox service technicians will be mobilized as soon as weather conditions allow, to limit outages and get customers reconnected. Each year, Cox makes preparations for potential storm strikes prior to the start of hurricane season. The Cox East Region is ready to respond to any damage our area receives from Idalia.
“Our Cox team is prepared for the impact of Tropical Storm Idalia and will not rest until our region is connected,” said J.D. Myers, II, senior vice-president and region manager of Cox’s East Region. “We’re committed to minimizing outages and restoring any impacted services as soon as possible. Our top priorities are the safety of our employees and reconnecting the communities we serve.”
Cox would also like to remind customers in Central Florida to be making preparations for the storm:
- Put together a disaster preparedness kit with a three (3) day supply of clothes, water and food. Don’t forget prescriptions and supplies for babies and the elderly.
- Notify a friend/neighbor if you plan to evacuate. Provide them with your intended destination and contact information.
- Prepare your home and property. Bring loose items indoors and remove dead/dying vegetation.
- Charge all mobile phones and store important contact numbers
